Special road development scheme for Kerala: Fernandes
For development of roads in Kerala, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) plans to have a special scheme considering the problem of shortage of land faced by the state, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes said in Thiruvananthapuram on July 15.The details of the scheme would be announced after clearing certain technical parameters, he said.
Aluva-Edapally stretch h'way in Kochi to be widened
The Aluva-Edappally stretch of National Highway 47 in Kochi is to be widened into four-lane one to facilitate traffic during the metro rail works. The Kochi Metro Rail authorities already taken initiative for this. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has given its consent for the widening of the stretch. The National Highway will be widened by evacuating encroachments on either side but without acquiring additional land.
NHAI says 'no' for additional structures on h'way in Nashik
In Nashik, work on the Mumbai-Agra national highway passing through the city can be undertaken only during the operation and maintenance period as the project cost has exceeded its limit, said the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). With freak accidents becoming frequent over the widened Mumbai-Agra national highway, both commuters and residents along the highway come up with new demands in respect to the inconveniences faced by them.
Govt may ease exit norms for road developers
The Union government may relax exit norms for highway developers, a move which will increase mergers and acquisitions in the road construction sector of India. At present, there are limits on the extent to which a lead project developer can exit from a project, with time-based milestones. Relaxation of this norm has been a long-standing demand of developers and the Cabinet may soon take up a proposal in this regard.
Odisha govt to complete NH works in scheduled time
Land acquisition is to be paced up to complete the National Highway projects within the scheduled time, the Odisha government has decided. The State Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who reviewed the progress of different NH projects, asked the officials to expedite the process for getting forest clearances.
Relief expected to road infra majors in paying premiums
The Union government may allow road construction companies, which have taken up highway projects, to restructure the payment of premium amount to be paid to it (the government). Hence infrastructure majors, including L&T, IRB, GVK and GMR, can expect relief in executing highway projects, which they have bagged by quoting high premium - upfront revenue to the government - a year ago.
